Most adults know that as women age, their hormones fluctuate and they go through menopause, with some experiencing unpleasant, uncomfortable and sometimes, downright awful symptoms. What’s less recognized is that men also experience changes to hormone levels with age, and just as women experience unpleasant symptoms, so do men.
These bothersome symptoms, stemming from decreased testosterone levels, are what brought Ray, when he was in his early 50s, to see Dr. McCleery.
Referred to Dr. McCleery by a friend, Ray had started feeling the impacts of the diminishing testosterone levels, known as andropause. He was frequently tired and found he had limited energy. His thought process didn’t seem as sharp and romantically, he felt off. In talking to a work colleague and friend, Ray learned about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy administered via pellets.
Taking the advice of his friend, Ray made an appointment with Dr. McCleery. After completing his blood work, Ray learned he was a candidate for HRT. Very quickly, he began noticing a difference.
“I really enjoy the benefits,” says Ray. “I sleep much better, it’s a sounder sleep. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night. My concentration level is better. It just keeps me feeling younger.”
Ray also credits HRT with enabling him to stay fit and athletic, both in his weight training and cardio workouts. And, after becoming accustomed to how good he feels after receiving treatment, he’s also able to recognize when he’s due for his next appointment.
“I start feeling a difference, I get a little tired and not as vibrant. Then, when I get my levels checked, my blood work will show the numbers are lower,” he says. “There’s a clear difference between after I receive treatment and six months later when I’m due. That’s how I know it’s working.”
Today, nearly eight years later, Ray couldn’t be happier with his decision. In fact, even though he has retired to Florida, Ray continues to see Dr. McCleery, coordinating his appointments with trips home to New Jersey to see family. Even Ray’s fiancée has begun receiving treatment for her menopause symptoms.
“I recommend HRT treatment to anyone who feels like they have lost their edge. If you feel sluggish, lack concentration, have poor sleep, lack energy in the weight room, bedroom or the boardroom, HRT treatments will improve your overall quality of life,” he says.
